What I see most often on a duct work and air quality call
- Tape-failure leaks. old cloth duct tape disintegrates in attic heat. Aeroseal or mastic is the fix, not new tape.
- Disconnected returns. I find at least one fully disconnected return register every month — the system has been pulling attic air for years.
- Undersized supply. 1960s ducts were sized for 2-ton systems; you've got a 4-ton condenser pushing through them. Hello, low static pressure.
- No filtration upgrade path. MERV-13 filters need a properly sized return and a media housing. Slapping one in a thin slot starves the blower.
